Upgrading your VPS plan
Ran out of RAM, or the disk is filling up faster than you planned? You don't need a new server. Open the server's page in your account and look for "Upgrade plan" in the "Plan and renewal" block. Same machine, same IP, same data, just more resources.
What it costs
You pay only the difference between the plans, and only for the days left in the current paid period. Say you're on Pulse ($10) with 20 days left and move to Drive ($15): the difference is $5 a month, so you pay about $5 × 20 / 30 = $3.33. From the next renewal the invoice is simply the new plan's price.
The exact amount is on the button before you click, so there are no surprises. If you open an upgrade invoice and then change your mind and pick another plan, the first invoice is cancelled automatically.
What happens after payment
The new resources are applied right after the invoice is paid. The server restarts once to pick them up, which usually takes a minute or two, so pick a quiet moment if something important is running.
On the standard images the root partition grows to the new disk size on boot. Check with:
df -h /
If it still shows the old size, open a ticket and we'll sort it out.
Limits
Only upgrades for now. Moving to a smaller plan isn't possible because a disk can't be shrunk safely without the risk of losing data. If you really need a smaller plan, order a new server, move your data, then cancel the old one.
You also can't upgrade a server that is suspended for non-payment or has a cancellation scheduled. Pay the renewal or withdraw the cancellation first.
