Transferring a domain to dedisrv: preparation and steps
A transfer only changes the registrar — you remain the domain's owner. As long as the DNS servers stay the same, your website and email keep working without interruption.
Before you start, check
- 60 days have passed. Domains in international zones (.com, .net, .org and others) can't be transferred within 60 days of registration, a previous transfer or a change of owner.
- Expiry date. Don't leave the transfer to the last few days: if the domain is about to expire, renew it with your current registrar first.
- Access to the owner's email. The registrar may send a confirmation email to the domain owner's address. If contact privacy is enabled, make sure those emails reach you.
Transfer steps
- Remove the lock. Turn off the transfer lock in your current registrar's panel (it may be called "Domain lock" or "Transfer protection").
- Get the authorization code. Request the EPP code (Auth code) — it's usually shown in the panel or sent to the owner's email.
- Leave a request. Enter the domain and code in a request on our site. We'll issue an invoice and start the transfer once it's paid.
- Confirm the transfer if the registrar sends you an approval email.
For international zones the process usually takes 5–7 days. The transfer includes a one-year renewal, so you don't lose the remaining term.
DNS during the transfer
To keep your website and email running, don't change the DNS servers until the transfer is complete. If your domain currently uses the registrar's own DNS, make sure it will keep working, or move your records to another DNS service beforehand.
